- Sorry, but ProcommPLUS for Windows is FLAWLESS at 57600 and V.fc modems on
- the same com port. Its only Peter's WINSOCK SLIP that bites the big one.
-
- The thing is that the data is not LOST. Its being held up somewhere inside
- the Winsock code, because eventually the logjam clears with <no> further
- retransmissions from the host.

- It is always interesting to see that virtually everyone, from all over the
- world, would have no problem using Trumpet Winsock - then here comes a bunch
- of people, all from the same access provider, who are having problems. Makes
- one wonder if it is not just a problem setting up.
-
- Just for the record, I have never had problem with Trumpet Winsock dialing and
- connecting since beta 18 and through all the various pre-release versions. My
- FTP speed is on the order of high 1500 to 1600 or so cps on compressed files -
- which is just about right.

-
- All from one provider? Sorry, I have seen plenty of postings from OTHER
- providers. If its on our end why does Alpha 17 work FLAWLESSLY while 18+
- and 1.0A fail? How about the fact that all of our MAC customers running
- INTERSLIP work fine? My Powerbook 180, which I use regularly, runs
- flawlessly. It is <only> the PC platform that has trouble. Chameleon is
- known to be ok too, but Chameleon is $400! For that kind of money it had
- <better> work.
-

-
- Sure, your FTP speed is ok.
-
- Now go into QVT and open some telnet sessions. When I do that I see long
- pauses in the stream -- it is apparently a problem with <short> packets
- which get held for some indeterminate amount of time.
-
- Before you point the finger at QVT I have the same problem with TRMPTEL.
-
- FTPs perform normally, as does Gopher and Mosaic. All of those put a
- distinctly different load on the system than a telnet do (they close
- streams after sending the data, which could cause a flush and thus prevent
- the problem from occurring, etc).
-
- Unfortunately, some of us think that Telnet is an integral part of this
- kind of service and expect that it will work properly.
-
- My standards for recommending that people grab, and more importantly,
- <REGISTER> and <PAY FOR> some piece of software are high. Perhaps much
- higher than some other folks. I consider this to be a significant business
- opportunity for the software author who wants to meet the challenge and
- make some money in the process.

-
- Actually, I've never even met Karl, just seen alot of his postings,
- and I'm having the same probably (and am in the same situation) I want to
- provide a very easy package of programs (really like QVT/NET) that they
- can use to connect to our system via SL/ip under Windows. I'm using
- the newest version of TRUMP WINSOCK and after a random amount of time, my
- SL/ip connection locks up completely.
-
- I have over 2000 users and growing that would like to play with
- SL/ip, but this major bug is preventing me, so far, from recommending this
- sort of setup.
-
- Karl...pls post a followup of what you get...
